As a maternity photographer (or a photographer in general), Government Island has been great for me this season! I love working with the creek, especially for maternity and family photoshoots. There's so much versatility in shooting next to, and in the creek. My clients recently have been so cooperative and willing to get in the water and I've just loved photographing them there!
For Ashley's maternity session we started on the creek bed with a lot of the posed pictures. I wanted to get a lot of photos of her with her son Jonah since he will always be her first baby. And since she’s now having a baby girl, I wanted to emphasize that mom-son bond between her and Jonah before her daughter gets here! After taking a bunch of mom and son photos I made sure to grab the special family photos.
We ended the session with Ashley in the water for her first outfit. I like to do one outfit with the family, and then a special one just for the new mom! After she had changed we took a few photos in the parking lot, which is just a gravel lot surrounded by a bunch of foliage, perfect for pictures! The foliage near the parking lot sometimes blossoms into an almost tropical-feeling paradise during certain seasons.
We walked into the weeds and I just had to laugh because there was a giant light pole and she was looking at me like I was crazy! I told her that I would fix it in post and the light post would be gone. I shot some great photos in the foliage near the parking lot. Each one had this very tropical feel, it was great!
With that second outfit we went back to the creek down the trail and got Ashley into the water. In the creek the golden light from the sunset was the perfect backdrop! The session went off great, and it was such a special time to celebrate Ashley and her new baby! Ashley and Chris were both super easy to work with and I get to see them again because their new little girl is coming soon!
