One of my favorite parts of the changing of the seasons is the shift between indoor and outdoor activities! With warmer temperatures and more plants in bloom capturing baby Levi's outdoor newborn photoshoot was a true delight!
The Ruiz family approached me when Levi was eight days new. He was born a couple of weeks early so he was the tiniest little thing! We shot the session close to momma's due date and Levi was only about six pounds, just a super tiny guy. I took some pictures for a ten-pound newborn the day before and comparing the two was too funny!
Holding a big baby and then holding a little baby is a completely different experience! We love big babies in this business, don't get me wrong, but with smaller babies there are so many options for props and outfits!
We started the session outside, and the weather gave us perfect temperatures. It was just a really nice day to be out in nature! I took all of the family photos outside in my own garden. We also took the pictures of mom with the kids and dad with the kids in the garden as well. The foliage in the garden was finally turning really green, and it was the first time that my yard really radiated full spring! The photos make it seem like we were in a big, deep forest, but it was actually my front lawn!
After the family shots we tried some prop photos of Levi, but the little man was not having it! Instead we got a casual pose photo, which I was happy with, but I didn't want to push Levi's temperament. We went inside and I got Levi super snuggly and took some prop shots and then moved to the beanbag. The beanbag photos went really well, but Levi was starting to wake up a little more. When babies start to wake up I usually end the session, but I always have to push for one more photo!
We wrapped him up and did a little "Huck-Finn" pose of him on his back in the wrap and he actually gave me a couple of baby smirks! I absolutely loved those little smirks! We were only able to get a couple of open-eye shots, but Levi's smile ended his outdoor newborn photoshoot on a high note! Baby Levi and the Ruiz family were great and they'll be back soon for his six-month photos!
